I often get asked about hair care and products. So I thought I'd share some of the products I am using this winter and 3 simple steps I think are absolutely important to protect your hair from the harsh winter weather.
I believe one of the keys to healthy hair is moisture. This is even more important in the winter when our hair loses moisture quickly. So it is a must to keep your hair moisturized at all times.
Every morning I douse my hair with moisturizer and then seal the moisture in with coconut oil if I feel like my hair is extra dry or moroccan argan oil if it is just slightly dry. If at any point during the day I feel like my hair needs a little more moisture, I slather some moisture on to give my hair a little boost. It feels like playing tag sometimes trying to keep my hair moisturized, lol.
All that moisturizer in your hair may be good for it but tonnes of product can also clog your hair follicles, which is not good for the hair. Because I moisturize my hair quite often, I wash it about once a week.
I alternate between a co-wash (wash hair using a cleansing conditioner) and a proper wash with shampoo and conditioner. Because washing pretty much strips my hair of its oils, whenever I can, I also do a hot oil treatment or put on a hair masque to give my hair a little extra TLC.
It is one thing to moisturize your hair and it is another to keep the moisture locked in. This is where protecting comes in place.
Whether it is through protective styling, or wearing a hat, I try as much as possible not to shield my hair, especially my ends, from the cold weather.
