I love fashion. And even though I focus on everyday fashion, I thought I'd take a break from the typical #outfitoftheday and the How I Styled posts and be inspired by a fashion event I look forward to every year--the Met Gala red carpet.
The Red Carpet
Each year, the Met Gal red carpet is sprinkled with celebs adorned in the most lavish haute couture, custom-made formal wear inspired by the theme for the year. To the rest of us watching, it is basically like Halloween for Hollywood.
I'm going to be honest, I only found a few years ago that the Met Gala was actually a fundraiser--I just thought it was an excuse to play dress up, and I wasn't complaining!
The Met Gala is actually the biggest fashion fundraiser held every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
The theme for the gala is based on the theme for the Costume Institute's Exhibition for the year and this year's theme is "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination".
This theme can take quite the controversial turn, and I suspect some will go there tonight, but I had my own interpretation of it.
My Met Look
When I heard the theme, some concepts that came to mind were around Fairies, 18th Century and British monarchy.
Put all that together and you get this ethereal portrait, in a garden (as lot of portraits of that time were decicted).
My Red Carpet Predictions
My predictions for this year's Met Gala red carpet are...
Unfortunately this dress is sold out so I got a couple of alternatives linked below:
