It can be hard to fight the urge to rush to the mall every time you check out blogs or scroll down your Instagram feed. But fashion is not meant to render you bankrupt. It is possible to be trendy without breaking the bank. A few tips to help guide you...

Be in the know.
Familiarize yourself with the season's trends. If you're thinking that sounds tedious, the picture above already shows a couple of those trends. Scroll down and you'll be inundated with more.

Recycle is the word.

Go through your wardrobe. Unless you change your wardrobe every season, you will have items from previous seasons. One thing fashion is, is recurring. You'd be amazed at how many trends you are able to find. Put them somewhere accessible such as a separate rack.

Take your pick.

Decide which other trends will work with your existing wardrobe and fit your signature style.

Map out a plan.
Find out which stores have what you're looking for. Note down a few stores so you have options. If you find something you absolutely love, I even suggest calling ahead and making sure the store you're going to has it, and maybe even putting that item on hold.

Go Shopping.
Shop smart, stay on budget, follow your list, and most of all, enjoy the experience! And when you get home, add your new buys to the other items you've pulled out to serve as your own little fall trend boutique.

Play dress up.
You can go ahead and try your trendy pieces, new and old, with the rest of your closet to make sure it works and also to give yourself a chance to explore different ways to work the same trend. I suggest playing your favorite music to dance to, as this process can get tiring, and don't do this on an empty stomach.

Adopt a minimalist approach.

The goal is not to look like a walking fall fashion advertisement; you don't want to look like you're trying too hard. You can literally add an item as small as a scarf to your outfit and take it from plain to trendy. Less is more, and that way, there's more to spread throughout the season.

This is simply to add to your fall/winter wardrobe [warm clothing] to give you a trendy look.
