I heard someone say that we should think of eating, less as a source of enjoyment and more as a process to get nutrients.
I am super guilty of using food for anything and everything--for comfort when I'm having a bad day, for entertainment with friends, for something to do when I'm bored, to complete my "me days" when I'm on the couch in my jammies watching a chick flick...
If you think about it, we need food to survive. That is how we get what our bodies need to function properly and to continue functioning for a long time. But a lot of times, we're eating but we're giving our bodies less of what it needs and more of what we want, which just results in more of what we don't want i.e. love handles, fatigue, headaches etc.
When we hear about malnutrition, its easy to think about those scenes in the news of kids in certain countries, shirtless with big bellies. But malnutrition is not just about not eating enough, its also eating too much and I would even add--not eating enough of what we need.
If we made food choices based more on what our bodies need and less on what our taste buds want, we would lead healthier lives. Now I'm a foodie so I didn't say none of what we want, but even with the things we want, there's creative ways of making it so that we can gain something from it, or at the very least, not gain too much of what we don't want, lol. And well there's times when we're just not going to get much out of it, i.e. ice cream, but as long as those times are few and far between.
By the way, I can't say that my mindset has been successfully changed. I just had fruit for breakfast when I really could’ve used something warm and buttery, so this is my way of trying to convince myself that I’m on the right path coz my mind knows it but my taste buds are still not convinced, lol. #lestruggle
